Abstract

The city of Surabaya has a high level of solid waste with 79.19% of volume being household waste. Landfill activities will experience decomposition and produce CO2, CH4, and N2O gas which can cause global warming. Rungkut District has the potential to produce significant GHG emissions because most of the area is residential. This study aims to estimate the magnitude of GHG potential using the IPPC approach. Waste generation and composition data is obtained using load count analysis method in accordance with SNI 19-3964-1994. Calculation of GHG emissions is based on a scenario. Scenario 1 estimates of GHG emissions in 2025 without any reduction, scenario 2 estimates of GHG emissions in 2025 with 30% waste reduction, scenario 3 estimates of GHG emissions according to policy in 2025 which is ideal. The composition of the garbage in Rungkut sub-district consists of 41,79% leftovers; garden and garden waste 5,38%; mixed waste 11,24%; plastic waste 11,06%; wood 3,23%; 5,18% paper; textiles 2,14%; nappies 13,11%; rubber 0,43%; skin 0,18%; metal 0,61%; glass 2,33% and other waste 3,34%. The estimated results of GHG emissions from scenario 1 are CO2 of 0,22896 Gg/year, CH4 of 0,06621 Gg/year, and N2O of 0,00025 Gg/year. Scenario 2 produces CO2 emissions of 0.22538 Gg/year, CH4 of 0.07873 Gg/year and N2O 0.00169 Gg/year. Scenario 3 produces CO2 emissions of 0,17391 tons/year, CH4 of 0.07048 Gg/year and N2O of 0.00131 Gg/year. Keywords: Emissions, Greenhouse Gases, IPCC
