Abstract

The increasing need for plastic is a concern in the middle the presence of increasingly accumulating plastic waste. Negative impact This will certainly become more dangerous if the production of plastic continues continued and there was no effort to reduce its use. Packaging food and beverages (Styrofoam) make up the largest share of usage plastic. One alternative to reduce the use of plastic as Food and beverage packaging uses biodegradable foam (Biofaam). The process that can be used to make biofoam is thermopressure. In this research, the materials used came from waste farmers namely cocoa shells, durian seeds and orange peels. This research was carried out to obtain the characteristics of the biofoam produced and the effects of the use of cocoa shell fiber and orange peel powder on the properties of biofoam. The variable variable is the composition formula, namely cocoa shell fiber and orange peel powder. Concentration of cocoa shell fiber used respectively 5%, 10%, 15%, 20% and 25% and orange peel powder respectively 0%, 5%, 10%, 15%, 20%. The two ingredients that have been made will be mixed with seed starch durian according to variables and other additional ingredients to form Before printing the biofoam dough in a thermopressing tool. Characteristics The biofoam obtained in this research was brown colored biofoam, The texture is hard and uneven and there are several holes. Absorption test results Biofoam is obtained at a concentration of 15% of the cocoa shell fiber that has been included standard biodegradable foam because its water absorption value is smaller than the value standard. Biodegradable test results for concentrations of 10%, 15% and 20% leather powder Oranges are included in the biodegradable foam standard because they degrade perfect (100%) maximum 9 months and tensile strength value of biofoam of all The concentration in this research is still not in accordance with the National Standards Indonesia (SNI).
