Abstract

A sodium thiosulfate pentahydrate plant from soda ash and sulfur dioxide with an absorption process with a capacity of 30,000 tons / year will be built in the JIIPE Gresik Industrial Estate, East Java. Some of the uses of sodium thiosulfate pentahydrate in the industrial world include photo print processing auxiliary materials, raw materials for skin medicine production, in the gold industry used as a gold mineral washing solution, in medicine used as an antidote. Process brief Sodium thiosulfate pentahydrate is a 99.7% soda ash raw material in the form of solids dissolved with process water from utilities. The dissolution results are fed to the absorber column for the absorption process with sulfur dioxide. Products that have become sulfur bisulfate are fed to the reactor to be reacted with sulfur in the form of solids and the addition of soda ash raw materials again. In the reaction process produces sodium thiosulfate solution products. The sodium thiosulfate solution is concentrated in the evaporator until saturated and then critalized with a crytalizer. The resulting product in the form of wet critals is fed to a rotary dryer for the drying process. The air used for drying is taken from the free air exhaled through the heater. Hot air with solids is separated using a cyclone. After separation, the product is passed using a cooling screw conveyor to be cooled to room temperature. After the product temperature becomes room temperature, a grinding process is carried out using a ball mill. In the ball mill, a grinding process of up to 100 mesh is carried out, where the product that passes is then accommodated in a sodium thiosulfate pentahydrate silo.
