Abstract
In 2020, the Central Statistics Agency reported that the average fruit consumption per capita per day among the Indonesian population was 88.56 grams. The high demand for fruit consumption necessitates a corresponding increase in fruit production. However, when a decline in production occurs, it is often attributed to disturbances caused by plant pest organisms (PPOs), such as insects. Not all insects are detrimental; there are also beneficial insects, like natural enemies. The populations of both pests and natural enemies can be unstable due to changes in abiotic factors. To stabilize the population of natural enemies for effective pest control, the cultivation of refuge plants can be employed as a strategy. Sampling methods include direct observation (visual control), sweep nets, yellow traps, and light traps. The results revealed a total of 503 insects in fruit crops with refuge plants and 434 insects in crops without refuge plants, comprising 4 orders, 11 families, and 13 morphospecies. The diversity indices were 2.12 and 2.08 for crops with and without refuge plants, respectively, indicating moderate diversity in both cases. The Bray-Curtis index for the insect groups in crops with and without refuge plants was 0.903, suggesting similar composition. Regression analysis indicated that temperature and humidity significantly influenced the abundance of both pest insects and natural enemies.
