Abstract

Indonesia is a country with 50% of its land area is forested, where from 2001 to 2020 has lost as much as 9.75Mha of primary forest. Forest loss due to deforestation is caused by several things, as developing countries with dense populations need land to be converted to adjust to the conditions of increasingly crowded communities. However, deforestation and forest degradation activities, both intentionally and unintentionally, not only become land conversion for the country but also have the impact of high emissions caused by deforestation flying into the air. The threat posed by increased gas emissions due to deforestation then prompted Indonesia to cooperate in implementing REDD+. Cooperation in implementing REDD+ was then carried out with Norway as a country that also has the determination to reduce gas emissions. This cooperation is then examined using environmentalism theory and the concept of bilateral cooperation. As mentioned in the theory of environmentalism and the concept of bilateral cooperation, Indonesia-Norway cooperation has succeeded in reducing the number of gas emissions caused by deforestation and achieving the interests of each country to reduce GHG emissions. Keyword: Deforestation, GHG, REDD+, Indonesia-Norway Cooperation
