Abstract
One of the macroeconomic problems faced by Banten Province is the high level of open unemployment rate. This condition is in contrast to the realization of domestic investment and government expenditure that have an upward trend and the rate of economic growth that is relatively high, so this is not in accordance with the ideal conditions in existing theories. This study aims to determine the effect of domestic investment and government expenditure on the open unemployment rate through economic growth as an intervening variable in Banten Province. The data used is secondary data in the form of time series during 2007 to 2021 sourced from the Indonesia and Banten Province Central Bureau of Statistics. The analysis in this study uses the Path Analysis method followed by a Sobel test to determine the mediating effect of the intervening variable. The results of this study show that partially, domestic investment and economic growth do not directly affect the open unemployment rate, while government expenditure directly affects the open unemployment rate. Domestic investment and government expenditure indirectly have no effect on the open unemployment rate through economic growth, or in other words economic growth cannot be an intervening variable.
