Abstract

Economic dynamics in an area can affect its neighbors through the spillover effect which is an impact that arises due to a dependency relationship. This impact can be in the form of a positive impact (Spread Effect) or a negative impact (Backwash Effect). This study uses quantitative analysis and uses logarithmic data of the Gross Regional Domestic Product of Bakorwil V Jember from 2012-2021 in quarterly form. The research method used is the Vector Error Correction Model (VECM). Based on the calculation results, it can be concluded that the relationship of economic growth between regions in the Bakorwil V Jember region is mostly two-way. This means that in addition to being able to have an impact on the spillover of growth, it also receives the impact of the spillover of economic growth from other regions. Economic growth in the Bakorwil V Jember region has a different impact from each region. There is a positive impact (Spread Effect) and a negative impact (Backwash Effect). The impact of the Spread Effect in the development activities of each region in the Bakorwil V Jember area is greater than the Backwash Effect. This is consistent with what Perroux hypothesized through the theory of growth poles. Keywords : Economic Growth, Spillover Effect, Spread Effect, Backwash Effect
