Abstract

Water has significant role for plant growth and development. The capacity of soil to hold water is influenced by the physical and chemical properties of the soil in various types of land use. Karangpatihan Village is dominated by dry land. Soil samples were selected by purposive random sampling. Soil samples of disturbed and undisturbed soil were collected from three units of land use which included dry fields, paddy fields, and shrubs. The samples were replicated four times. Data analysis described in curves was performed using correlation and regression analysis using IBM SPSS Statistics 25 and Microsoft Excel 2016 soft wares. This study aims to analyze the factors that influence the ability of the soil to retain water and to analyze its value in three different land uses. The results showed that the bush land has the highest water holding capacity. The most influential factor in soil water holding capacity is organic matter. The other factors that significantly influenced soil water holding capacity are soil texture, soil bulk density, soil porosity, and soil permeability
