Abstract

Erosion is the process of releasing soil grains from their parent in one place and transporting the material by the movement of water or wind, then followed by deposition of material transported elsewhere. The occurrence of erosion causes land damage which includes damage to the physical, chemical and biological properties of the soil. such as: river water becomes turbid, siltation of rivers and reservoirs, erosion of river banks, leaching of soil nutrients, decreased land productivity, depletion of soil solum, and expansion of critical land, which ultimately leads to land degradation. One of the methods used to obtain the erosion rate on dry land is the USLE (Universal Soil Loss Equation) method. Through this method, it is possible to determine the magnitude of erosion and the distribution of priority areas for soil conservation. The amount of eroded soil can be determined from several factors such as rain erosivity (R), soil erodibility (K), slope length and slope steepness (LS), ground cover vegetation (C) and soil conservation measures (P). The erosion hazard index (IBE) in this case is obtained from the ratio of the soil erosion rate and soil erosion tolerance.
