Abstract

Brazilian spinach cultivation is a form of urban farming that is increasingly popular in cities around the world. One of the vegetable cultivation techniques suitable for urban agriculture is to use the wick cropping model. This technique can accommodate several plants, so as to increase the number of populations in one container. The number of plants that are too dense can cause competition for resources such as sunlight, water, and soil nutrients which results in sub-optimal growth and low production. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of the wick cropping model and the effect of plant population on the growth and production of Brazilian spinach. This study was arranged in a completely randomized design with two factors. The first factor is the planting model: M1 = Polybag Model, M2 = Wick Model. The second factor is the plant population: P1 = 3 plants, P2 = 6 plants, P3 = 9 plants. The results showed that there was no significant interaction between the effect of the planting model and the plant population, but separately the treatment of the planting model had a significant effect on plant height at all ages, while the treatment of plant population had a significant effect on the number of leaves aged 2 MST and 5 MST, wet weight per planting model , wet weight per plant and dry weight per planting model.
