Abstract

Snail shells are a by-product of processed people's consumption that has not been widely used because they have a hard texture. The snail shell itself has a CaO content of up to 96% based on the results of XRF analysis. The research on the synthesis of nano-precipitated calcium carbonate has the objective to study and determine the effect of temperature and stirring speed on nanoprecipitated calcium carbonate from snail shell waste by using the co-precipitation method. The research plan used a heating plate stirrer with the specified variables including an initial sample weight of 30 grams, a CaCl mole ratio of 1:16, pH 10, and a stirring time of 4 hours. For the variables carried out with coprecipitation reaction temperatures (oC) = 50, 60, 70, 80, and 90 and for stirring speed (rpm) = 550, 700, 850, 1000, and 1150. The best results in this study were obtained Nano size -PCC is 54.83 nm with PSA analysis, 50.09 nm with Scherrer equation, and 56.81 nm with SEM and the yield obtained is 70.112%. These results were obtained at a temperature of 90oC with a stirring speed of 1150 rpm.
