Abstract

Pumpkin peel is a material that may be used as a biosorbent because it has pectin content of 24.97% - 47.99%. The purpose of this study was to obtain suitable mathematical model for the adsorption process of artificial Pb waste with pumpkin peel biosorbent and to study the effect of adsorption time and biosorbent mass on the adsorption power of pumpkin peel biosorbent in the absorption of artificial Pb waste. The process of making pumpkin skin biosorbent includes stages of dehydration, carbonization, and activation. The biosorbent that has been formed is then added to the artificial Pb waste with concentration of 100 ppm and stirred using magnetic stirrer for 15 minutes at speed of 150 rpm with variable mass of 3, 6, 9, 12, 15 grams of biosorbent with contact time of 30, 60, 90 , 120, 150 minutes. Results Based on this study, the best results were obtained at 150 minutes with a mass of 15 grams, the percentage reduction in Pb was 98.07%. The mathematical model that is suitable for adsorption of artificial Pb waste with pumpkin peel biosorbent is the Langmuir isotherm model. The resulting equation is 0.8415x + 4.4676 with value of R2 = 0.9777
