Abstract

Ammonium Chloride Factory from Ammonium Sulphate and Sodium Chloride with a Double Decomposition Process with a capacity of 90.000 tons/year will be built in the JIIPE Industrial Area, Gresik, East Java. The factory will run continuously for 330 days a year with the raw materials used, namely ammonium sulfate and sodium chloride. The purpose of establishing the ammonium chloride factory is to meet domestic demand and reduce imports. The use of ammonium chloride, among others, as a raw material for the manufacture of dry battery cells, the fertilizer industry, the pharmaceutical industry, and the food industry. Briefly, the description of the process for making ammonium chloride begins with diluting the raw materials ammonium sulfate and sodium chloride until they are saturated. Then the two raw materials are reacted in the reactor and will produce a solution of ammonium chloride and sodium sulfate cake which are then separated in a rotary drum vacuum filter. The sodium sulfate cake is sent to a rotary dryer to be dried, then stored in a silo as a by-product. The main product of ammonium chloride solution is flowed to the evaporator to be concentrated and then crystallized using a crystallizer. The crystals formed will be separated from the mother liquor using a centrifuge. Wet crystals are dried using a rotary dryer, then refined using a ball mill to a size of 100 mesh, to then be accommodated in product silos and ready for packaging.
