Abstract
Hornbill has important benefits to the ecosystem of tropical forests in Indonesia, because habit who like to spread the seeds of the rest of his food as he flew. However, the existence of these bird is rarely known by the people of Indonesia. Though the bird population in the wild is very worrying, almost all types of Hornbill have the status of protected animals. It is unfortunate if people, especially the children of Indonesia in the coming period don’t recognize this very important and exotic bird. So the media design is needed that can be an educational material for the people of Indonesia, especially children so they can get to know Hornbill. This design raises the title "Design of Encyclopedia Illustration Book Types of Hornbills Existing in Indonesia". The Encyclopedia book was chosen because the media can contain various general information about Hornbill. This design uses 2 stages of methodology, namely the preparation stage and the creation stage. The preparation stage includes data collection, data analysis, synthesis, and determination of the design objects. Then the creation stage includes preproduction, production, and post-production. The data analysis process used is in the form of a descriptive analysis that explains important points of the collected data so that these points are used to find solutions to existing problems using the 5W + 1H method, thus producing the keyword "Getting to Know Indonesian Forest Farmers". The concept design of the book contains basic information on the various types of Hornbills, using language that is lightweight to be easily understood and attractively packaged with realist illustrations using digital painting techniques so that the audience can know the original form of the Hornbill. The design of this book is expected to educate the audience about the importance of Hornbill in the forest ecosystem and the audience can get to know more closely the various types of Hornbills in Indonesia.
