Abstract

The Gundala film is a superhero film adapted from a comic book by an Indonesian comic artist. The film, which was produced by Bumilangit Studios and directed by Joko Anwar, is the subject of this research because researchers see that there is a gender representation that can be shown in the film. In an effort to prove this representation, this study uses a qualitative approach coupled with an analytical tool through John Fiske's semiotic theory called "Television Codes". Through analysis using John Fiske's theory which consists of three levels, namely, the level of reality, the level of representation and the level of ideology in several scenes with some of the selected shots. The researchers found that gender equality has been running and has been raised both implicitly and explicitly, even when gender equality is not in the main character but in the secondary character, which can be seen if you pay close attention. This shows that women as a gender in movies or in real life can show that they can not lose or even be better than men.
