Abstract

The highway is one source of air pollution. The flow of motorized vehicle traffic on the highway can cause a decrease in air quality. The purpose of this study was to evaluate air quality in terms of CO parameters and the relationship between the number of vehicles, air temperature and air humidity to CO concentrations. This research method is a quantitative field. This research was conducted on the Hero highway, Sidoarjo sub-district, to the Legundi highway, Krian sub-district. Sampling is estimated to take 20 (twenty) working days in the morning (07.00-09.00) and afternoon (16.00-18.00). CO measurement using a CO detector, humidity measurement using a Hygrometer and temperature measurement using a thermometer. For meteorological parameters using digital tools. The highest concentration of CO in the air from Jalan Pahlawan Sidoarjo sub-district to Legundi highway, Krian sub-district is highest in the morning and in the afternoon at point 19, namely 203,844 µg/Nm3 and 222,167 µg/Nm3. the number of motorized vehicles in the morning is 10,012 vehicles/day and in the evening it is 10,145 vehicles/day. The highest average air temperature in the morning is 29 ºC and 34 ºC in the afternoon. The results of the Pearson correlation analysis between motor vehicle traffic and CO concentrations use a level of significance α = 0.05, the value of Pearson correlation (r) is 0.580 which is in the moderate positive category. So there is a relationship between motor vehicle traffic and CO concentrations in ambient air.
