Abstract

Highways as land transportation infrastructure have an important role in mobilizing activities for people in Indonesia. The road pavement layers that are commonly used in Indonesia are asphalt concrete layers including the AC-WC layer. In its manufacture, materials such as asphalt, fine aggregate, coarse aggregate and filler are used. However, commonly used fillers such as cement have a relatively expensive price, so an alternative material that is more economical, such as bamboo leaves, is needed. Bamboo leaves tend to be left scattered and dry by the community even though they have their own benefits when they are turned into ashes. Bamboo leaf ash contains high enough Silica (SiO2) so it can be reactive to become a stiff and hard material. In this study, the addition of bamboo leaf ash as a filler (filler) to the AC-WC mixture using the Marshall method stipulated in the 2018 Highways General Specifications, which is expected to have bamboo leaf ash can have a good effect on the Marshall characteristics of the asphalt concrete mixture. This study used an optimum asphalt content of 7% and used bamboo leaf ash filler percentages of 0%, 2%, 4% and 6%. From the results of the Marshall Test data with the addition of bamboo leaf ash filler, the optimum mixed value of bamboo leaf ash filler was obtained at 2% with a stability value of 1127,83 kg, a flow value of 4,29 mm, a Marshall Quotient value of 267,26 kg/mm, a VIM value of 2,87%, a VMA value of 17,47%, and a VFA value of 83,64%. Marshall test results on stability values, Marshall Quotient, VMA and VFA have met the requirements of the 2018 General Highways Specifications but the flow and VIM values have not met the requirements of the 2018 General Highways Specifications.
