Abstract

Zero waste is an activity to eliminate industrial waste by utilizing to a new form. Bagasse charcoal and boiler ash can be used as biobriquettes. To maintain the resilience of biobriquettes, adhesives are needed. The adhesive used is vinasse waste from ethanol production. This study aims to analyze the comparison of the characteristics of bagasse charcoal biobriquettes and boiler ash with vinase adhesive and to examine the composition of the best biobriquettes produced according to SNI 01-6235-2000. The process of making biobriquettes begins with the pyrolysis of bagasse at a temperature of 30℃ for 15 minutes. Then sift bagasse charcoal and kettle ash with various sizes of material (20, 40, 60, 80, and 100) mesh. Bagasse charcoal and boiler ash were mixed with the ratio between bagasse charcoal and boiler ash 100%:0%; 70%:30%; 50%:50%; 30%:70%; 0%:100%, and uses 11 grams of vinase adhesive. The homogeneous mixture was molded using a cylindrical press. The charcoal briquettes are dried in the sun for 24 hours. The best biobriquettes were obtained at a size variation of 20 mesh with a composition of 100% bagasse charcoal yielding a calorific value of 5.553 cal/g, water content 3.58%, ash content 11.33%, and density 0.47 g/cm3.
