Abstract

Donggala Regency is an area traversed by a national road connecting two provinces in Sulawesi. In addition, this area is also the largest supplier of class C minerals in Indonesia. Both sectors are contributors to CO2 emissions in the air. The area passed by the national road and is the center for mining C minerals is the coastal area of Palu Bay and is a habitat for the mangrove ecosystem. Based on previous research, it is known that mangroves can reduce carbon dioxide in the atmosphere it can help in tackling global warming. Mangroves can store CO2 and convert it into oxygen which will be released into the atmosphere. This study aims to provide an inventory of CO2 emissions generated by the IPCC, to determine carbon stocks, carbon absorption, and oxygen produced by mangroves. This research was conducted from March to April 2023 at three mangrove locations in Banawa District, Donggala Regency. The results showed that the CO2 emissions generated from the transportation and mining sectors at the research location amounted to 5,401.11 tons/year. The total carbon stock of the three mangrove species studied was 1.648,0 tonnes/ha/year, with a total CO2 absorption of 6.048,2 tonnes/ha/year. At the same time, the oxygen that can be produced is 4.400,2 tons/ha/year. From a comparison of total CO2 absorption and CO2 emissions at the study site, it is known that the mangrove ecosystem in the coastal area of Banawa District can reduce CO2 emissions in the area. Keywords: Mangroves, CO2 Emissions, Carbon Stocks, Carbon Sequestration, Oxygen Production.
