Abstract
Vertisol has a dry and hard nature that results in the movement of roots being inhibited. Thus, the need for the addition of Entisol which has the advantage of excellent soil aeration and drainage, and is able to support the process of root respiration within the soil. Organic matter is also needed in the research, to bind the structure of the new artificial soil and improve the new planting medium. The research used a factorial RAL experimental design with two factors. The first factor was the dose of ready-to-use organic compost with four levels, namely 0%, 1%, 2.5%, and 5% of the total planting media. The second factor was the percentage of Entisol with three levels, namely 0%, 10%, and 20% of the total weight of the planting media. The addition of Entisol and compost caused a decrease in soil content weight, C-organic of the soil, and potential Hydrogen at 90 days after transplanting, but increased the value of Total Nitrogen. Soil content weight decreased from 1.39 g/cm3 to 1.22 g/cm3, C-organic of the soil decreased from 1.67 to 0.97, and potential Hydrogen decreased from 6.21 to 6.08. However, the Total Nitrogen value increased from 0.03 to 0.06. The best big red chilli production results were obtained in the K2E0 treatment with the addition of 2.5% compost without Entisol. This treatment resulted in an increase in production by 0.08% with a total weight of 174.73 g (32 pieces), much better than the production results in the control group which only reached a weight of 100.80 g with 18 large red chilli peppers.
