Abstract

In managing human resources it is very important to analyze what are the possible factors that can affect the performance of employees by taking into account the needs of employees, including the existence of a work ethic and appropriate work competencies. Work ethic is a work spirit that is characteristic of a person or group of people who work, which is based on a belief in work ethics or perspective, and is manifested through determination and concrete behavior in the world of work. Competence is an ability to carry out or carry out a job or task that is based on skills and knowledge and is supported by the work attitude required by the job. This study aims to determine the effect of work ethic and work competence on the performance of employees of PT Surya Segara Safety Marine. This type of research includes quantitative research using the PLS-SEM (Partial Least Square-Structural Equation Modeling) approach. Data collection techniques by distributing questionnaires, and documentation. Respondents to this study were 41 employees of PT Surya Segara Safety Marine. Sampling method used saturated sampling technique where the entire population in this study was used as the research sample.The hypothesis testing was calculated using the SMARTPLS 3.0 program. From the results of this study it was found that the work ethic and competence variables had a significant positive effect on employee performance at PT Surya Segara Safety Marine. This means that the better the work ethic and competence of employees, the better the performance will be. Work ethic and competence make a very significant contribution to the performance of employees of PT Surya Segara Safety Marine Surabaya and work ethic and competence can improve the performance of employees of PT Surya Segara Safety Marine Surabaya.
