Abstract
East Kalimantan is one of the areas with a population of immigrant tribes more than the original ethnic group. These migrant tribes are referred to as "migrants" which means people who make a move from their area to another area. The plurality of tribes in East Kalimantan is the basis for acculturation between cultures of each tribe which is very interesting to know. However, until now there has been no place to tell this history and the acculturation that occurred in East Kalimantan. Therefore there is a need for a forum to tell and show history and acculturation in East Kalimantan. One of them is by creating the Rantau Gallery in East Kalimantan with a Neo Vernacular approach which functions to accommodate collections that are closely related to acculturation in East Kalimantan as a reflection of the diversity of cultures in East Kalimantan. Some of the literature that supports the process of designing this gallery includes literature on gallery reviews, the history of the arrival of nomads in East Kalimantan, collection reviews, standard gallery space reviews and reviews of neo vernacular architecture as well as analysis of case studies. The emphasis on designing galleries is a single building with a scope of service on an international scale. The location chosen for designing the Rantau Gallery is Jl. Keledang River, Samarinda Seberang District. The selected site is in the trade and service area, has easy accessibility via Jl. Bung Tomo, the site orientation is facing east, the rainfall is very high, the wind moves from the south or north according to the season, the view to the outside of the site is quite good on the east side but also has high noise on the east. The design object will be a single building with 3 floors. The theme in the design of the Rantau Gallery is "Benua Etam Cultural Harmony" which means cultural harmony in a place that belongs to us together. The approach uses Samarinda's neo-vernacular architecture which is heavily influenced by the culture of the Bugis, Javanese, Banjar and Dayak tribes. While the design method used is the combined metaphor method, namely by combining physical elements in a culture such as traditional houses, ornaments and also non-physical elements of the values of a culture.
