Abstract
Stand up Comedy is a means used by comics to convey unrest combined with jokes that make the audience laugh. Social criticism is a form of communication that develops in society that functions as a control over the running of a social system. Bintang Emon is one of the comics who actively uses social media to interact with his followers packaged by means of Stand Up Comedy. In Bintang Emon's stand up comedy, the use of sarcasm to criticize others cannot be abandoned. The use of sarcasm does not make the person being criticized angry or offended, it even makes the person laugh too. This study aims to reveal social criticism in stand-up comedy by Bintang Emon on the Youtube channel Deddy Corbuzier Episode Somasi. The research method used is a qualitative approach with a critical discourse analysis model of Teun Van Dijk which has three dimensions, namely text, social cognition, and context. This research uses data collection techniques of documentation and literature studies, after which the data that has been presented will be analyzed using the theory of critical discourse analysis of the Teun Van Dijk model. . The results of this study show that in the text dimension, it implies criticism of the government while inviting the public to be sensitive to public problems. The social cognition dimension gives meaning that the social criticism that wants to be conveyed is a vehicle to reveal the inequality that occurs in society. The social context dimension shows that Bintang Emon has the power to influence or control social domination as well as greater access.
