Abstract
The film can not be separated from the interests around it. The film can be a reflection of people's lives. The Betting Film is a film that tells about four brothers in a simple family who only has a father and no mother figure to accompany them. This study used a descriptive qualitative research method using reception analysis from Stuart Hall. Reception analysis will focus on the text and the reader or in other words the media and the audience. Reception analysis views the audience as producers of meaning who actively create meaning, not just as consumers of media content. The purpose of this research is to find out the position of the audience according to Stuart Hall's three reading positions on masculinity constructed in the film Pertuhan. Based on the research that has been done, it can be concluded that the acceptance of informants can be grouped into dominant positions of hegemony, negotiation, and opposition. Surabaya youth's reception of masculinity in the film Pertuhan is still relevant to the masculine traits presented by David and Brannon, namely no sissy stuff, be a sturdy oak and give em hell. Surabaya youth perceive masculinity in the film in the form of firmness, physical strength, independence, ability to meet financial needs, and not showing the weak side of men. But on the other hand, researchers also found a view of toxic masculinity in the film.
