Abstract
YANIZHA BILLA ARDHANI, 1643010026, Representation of Theistic Satan- ism in the Film Before the Devil Picks Up (John Fiske's Semiotic Study of Repre- sentation of Theistic Satanism in the Movie Before the Devil Picks Up by Timo Tjahjanto) Before the Devil Picks Up tells about how a child named Alfie is haunted by a dark past that was committed by his father named Lesmana. This research was conducted to see how the representation of theistic satanism is displayed in films. The re- searcher chose 13 scenes which indicated signs of theistic satanism. The method used in this study is semiotic analysis by John Fiske which consists of the levels of reality, representation, and ideology. Data collection is done by means of documen- tation and literature study. The results of this study reveal that theistic satanism carried out by Lesmana is displayed in several scenes that represent theistic satan- ism, namely ritual processions, making agreements, evidence of theistic satanic practices.
