Abstract

This research will examine punk as one of the youth cultures in Indonesia and its process of interaction with the local context. Punk, as a youth culture that has spread globally, then adapts to the local context in Indonesia, resulting in an authentic alternative lifestyle. Punk Muslim emerges in Indonesia as an authentic punk culture that has adapted to the local context and socio-political dynamics in Indonesia. This research aims to analyze the process of punk culture globalization entering Indonesia and its interaction with the local culture in Indonesia and the socio-political context, using a descriptive approach. The research will employ the approaches of globalization and glocalization to depict this phenomenon. Through the glocalization approach, the research will explain the process of cultural interaction and meaning construction that leads to the emergence of a new culture, namely Punk Muslim. This research will draw from previous studies on punk, particularly Punk Muslim, to explore the meaning construction that occurs. The research will also gather insights from the participants to complement the explanations from previous studies. The research concludes that global punk entering Indonesia can be constructed and distorted to fit the local context, resulting in an authentic uniqueness. Keywords: Globalization, glocalization, alternative lifestyle
