Abstract
Personality is the characteristic and distinctive behaviour of an individual that sets them apart from others. Understanding our own personality and that of others can make it easier to adapt and interact with the environment. By knowing the personality type within ourselves, we can identify and understand the strengths and weaknesses of our personality type, as well as how to make friends, socialize, and even discover suitable professions based on our personality type. Personality is crucial for students as they are taught how to behave appropriately and practice good etiquette when interacting with others in society. It is also important for school counsellors to help understand the personalities of their students. Hence, the development of an Expert System for Detecting New Student Personalities using the Forward Chaining method. Forward chaining is a reasoning method that utilizes facts as knowledge representation to draw conclusions. This research aims to explore how to detect student personalities by asking questions that correspond to personality traits and ultimately provide a diagnosis of personality type and solutions for making friends and finding suitable professions. The Expert System consists of 32 personality traits categorized into four types: sanguine, choleric, melancholic, and phlegmatic. The observation involved 35 students, with a system accuracy of 74.28%. Keywords: Forward Chaining, Personality, Expert System, Guidance and Counselling
