Abstract

The dynamics of forest management in Indonesia continues to experience development from time to time. Before Indonesia's independence, forest management tended to be the monopoly of colonial rulers. However, after so many years of Indonesia's independence, forest management is no longer the absolute right of the authorities. The emergence of community-based forest management has encouraged the development of community forests, especially in Jombang Regency, East Java. Jombang Regency states that in Jombang there are four sub-districts that are used as Agropolitan Area Development, one of these sub-districts is Wonosalam District. The forest area in Wonosalam is managed by the Surabaya "Veteran" National Development University in East Java under the name UPN Forest. The UPN Forest area is dominated by 2 stands, namely the Pine and Mahogany stands. These two areas have different microenvironmental characteristics. One example is the intensity of the sun. The intensity of sunlight is very important for plants because sunlight is related to the availability of light for the photosynthesis process and can affect temperature and humidity in forest areas. Therefore, it is necessary to conduct research on forest mapping or spatial planning. So that it can find out the types of agricultural commodities that can be developed according to forest conditions. This research was conducted in January 2022-April 2023 on the land of the Wonosalam sub-district, Jombang district. This research The research activities consist of: 1) Field survey; 2) Direct observation in the field; 3) Soil sampling; 4) Laboratory analysis; 5) Data processing; and 6) Making maps. The results of the study show that land capability and suitability for Sengon, Eucalyptus, Pinus, Porang plants in the Wonosalam District Forest Area can be assessed using a Geographic Information System. Land suitability evaluation showed that land suitability was in class S3 (marginally appropriate) and N (not suitable) for all plants in all SSTs because they had severe limiting factors and affected their productivity. Keywords: suitability, land capability, Jombang.
