Abstract
Urban farming using a hydroponic system shows better results than conventional farming. Efficiency in using hydroponic fertilizers and increasing the resistance of tomato fruit from blossom-end rot needs to be done in order to reduce production costs and optimize production yields. Lack of calcium during fruit formation causes a decrease in the quality of tomatoes known as blossom-end rot. Blossom-end rot disorder is not caused by parasitic organisms but the plant is deficient in calcium. Blossom-end rot is a physiological disorder in fruit caused by a lack of calcium absorption by plants, causing abnormalities (burnt) on the butt of tomatoes. Blossom-end rot usually occurs in tomatoes that are still young or tomatoes that are about to ripen. The research was carried out from October 2022 to January 2023 at the Experimental Garden of the Faculty of Agriculture UPN "Veteran" East Java. This study was a 1 factor experiment consisting of 7 levels arranged in a Randomized Block Design (RBD) with 3 replications and each replication consisted of 3 samples to obtain 63 populations of tomato plants. The factor studied was the concentration of calcium in the hydroponic nutrition formula. The results showed that the application of various concentrations of calcium in hydroponic nutrient formulas had no effect on the vegetative phase of plants including plant height and number of leaves and had no effect on the generative phase of plants including the age of flower emergence, number of flowers, percentage of fruit-set, number of fruits and fruit weight. Treatment of various calcium concentrations had a significant effect on reducing the number of blossom-end rot. The calcium concentration of 220 mg l-1 is the optimum concentration which has a significant effect in preventing the occurrence of BER in tomatoes.
