Abstract
Coffee is often grown in an agroforestry system because coffee is a C3 plant that requires shade plants to reduce photorespiration so that photosynthesis can be optimal. Apart from the coffee plant itself, shade plants also have the potential to store carbon reserves. This study aims to determine the effect of the composition of vegetation types and the number of types of shade on carbon stored. This study uses a survey method. Sampling was carried out in three types of coffee plantations, namely SPL coffee 2 shade plants, SPL coffee 3 shade plants, and SPL coffee 5 shade plants spread over four sub-districts in Pasuruan Regency. In addition to measuring carbon stocks, an analysis of the Importance Value Index was also carried out. Observational data from the experiments were then analyzed using analysis of variance (ANOVA) and carried out with the F test at an error rate of 5%, to determine the effect of the treatment applied. Then if there is a real difference from the treatment, then a follow-up test is carried out at the 5% error rate. The results showed that the composition of woody plant species with large diameters in large quantities had an effect on the carbon stocks of the topsoil. The number of types of shade does not affect the amount of carbon stored in coffee agroforestry at the community garden level because productivity is prioritized on these lands.
