Abstract
The rapid development of Bawean Island is not fully able to fulfill all daily needs and tourism by using the main mode of transportation, namely sea transportation and alternative transportation, namely air transportation. For now the two modes of transportation have not been able to fulfill these activities. This is due to unfriendly sea wave conditions during certain seasons which results in sea transportation being disrupted. For air transportation, where the airport currently has a runway length of 930 m, the planes that can land are small planes with a capacity of only 15 passengers. For this reason, the Gresik Regency Government already has plans for a runway extension of up to 1300 m, which will allow the airport to accommodate aircraft with a larger passenger capacity. This plan will have an impact on increasing the number of passengers and users at the airport terminal that will be accommodated. This resulted in the need for a new Harun Thohir Pioneer Airport on Bawean Island. The new Harun Thohir Airport, in the design of the building will characterize the characteristics of local buildings and the culture of the people of the island of Bawean. Using the Neo Vernacular approach and the tangible metaphor method with the fusion of local architectural aspects, namely Dhurung, is expected to be able to make the airport building a landmark building on Bawean Island in the future by visualizing the locality of local architecture and culture of Bawean Island.
