Abstract

The development of the creative economy can become a pillar of economic development for Indonesia. Based on data from the 2018 Creative Economy Agency and the Central Statistics Agency, 20.85% of the output of the national creative economy comes from East Java. Creative economy actors in East Java are dominated by creative economy actors from Surabaya. However, the space that can accommodate and support the activities of highly creative actors in Surabaya is not maximized. The existence of high job targets also makes workers experience overwork and become stressed. This of course will have a negative impact on the results of productivity and the psychology of workers. Then the worsening climate conditions also require a solution in the design so that it can have a good impact on the environment. Surabaya Creative Center is designed to be a creative space center that accommodates the activities of creative actors in creating, collaborating and developing the creative economy. The design concept refers to the theme Creative and Nature Connectivity by creating an atmosphere of creative space that is connected to nature so that it can clear the mind, reduce stress and increase the creativity of creative actors. The design approach is strengthened by the application of principles from biophilic architecture. The biophilic principle puts forward the pattern of connectedness between humans and nature. The method used is natural analogy. The presence of the Surabaya Creative Center design is not only a place for the activities of creative actors but also as a new public space for Surabaya residents that can help boost the economy of the city and country.
