Abstract

Bioplastics are plastics that will be destroyed by the activity of microorganism in the environment. Crust rice contains quite high levels of starch and has the potential to be a materials for making bioplastics. This research aims to obtain the best variations of the addition of chitosan and sorbitol and to determine its effect on the quality of the bioplastics produced. The manufacture of bioplastics uses the solution casting method with the composition of 7 g aking rice flour added with chitosan according to variable and sorbitol according to variable. In this research the addition of sorbitol concentration gave affect on elongation percentage. Whereas the addition of different chitosan concentration gave affect for tensile strength. Based on the test results, the best bioplastics variation is the 10 gr chitosan : 5 ml sorbitol variant with tensile strength value of 5,716 Mpa, elongation value of 22.1%, and a biodegradation percentage of 32,91% in 45 days. The results obtained have met the SNI No. 7188.7 for elongation values and completely degraded within 45 days according to ASTM 5338.
