Abstract

Massive exploitation of plants without cultivation can cause extinction. One type of plant that has this problem is a cactus plant. Conservation activities such as procurement of seeds and cuttings necessary for the cultivation of this type of plant. The city of Surabaya is famous for its many parks with various shapes, including plant conservation. The existence of a cactus plant conservation park in Surabaya can increase three values, namely ecology, economy, and social. However, Procurement of plant nurseries in this city requires a special room temperature so that facilities are needed that can meet the conservation needs of this plant. Cactus Conservatory is a fully equipped ex-situ conservation park with Conservatory buildings, nursery facilities, research and tours education. Architecturally, the shape of the conservatory is a greenhouse with a scale big. This form is fairly simple, so new innovations are needed in form and appearance to be able to increase the visual value and add sale value. With this, the design of the Cactus Conservatory carries the theme Nature Mutualism and doing a biomimicry approach to be able to learn characteristics, habits and natural abilities to be utilized in the design. Cactus conservatory is expected to display three important aspects in biomimicry i.e., representative shape, adaptive structure and deep conservative energy use. To achieve these three things the method used is metaphors, adaptive structures and also apply sustainable cycle energy.
