Abstract
Indonesia's current food position is still dependent on rice. This is related to food security. To support food security, it can be done by promoting the cultivation of sorghum. Sorghum has long been cultivated in Indonesia, and there have been several areas that have planted it, one of which is Patihan Village, Babat District, Lamongan Regency. But not all farmers in Lamongan Regency cultivate sorghum. The purpose of this study is to analyze the technical, social, economic reasons and initiatives of farmers to cultivate sorghum, analyze the hopes and realities faced by farmers in sorghum agribusiness and their problems, analyze the feasibility of sorghum agribusiness and recommend efforts to develop sorghum as an alternative to rice to support food security. The analytical method used is descriptive qualitative, and R/C Ratio. The results showed that there were 8 technical reasons, 4 social reasons, 4 economic reasons and 1 reason for the initiative of farmers in cultivating sorghum. In addition, there are various hopes, realities and problems faced by farmers ranging from land processing activities to the availability of collectors. Calculation of the R/C Ratio is obtained at 0.26, meaning that it is not feasible to work. Efforts made by the government and stakeholders in developing sorghum as an alternative to rice to support food security are not only in cultivation activities but also in sorghum processing. Sorghum becomes analog rice.
