Abstract
Waste water of ZA fertilizer industry contains high concentrations of ammonium and phospate. Waste water with high concentration of ammonium and phospate can be recycle as a secondary source for producing struvite fertilizer. Mineral struvite is used as a raw material for fertilizer because the elements are macro elements of plants. Has a lower solubility in water, plants can absorb nutrients released before soluble in water, and commercial value as a fertilizer. Struvite can be found in pipes and wastewater treatment pumps which can cause blockage. Therefore, further processing is needed for handling of waste that has the potential to form struvite mineral. This research was conducted with a continuous system using a bulkhead column reactor. pH set at 8. With variable molar ratio of [Mg2+] : [NH4+] : [PO43– ] there are 1:1:1 ; 1,5:1:1 ; 2:1:1 ; 2,5:1:1 ; and 3:1:1 with presipitant MgCl2. Running is carried out at temperature 30oC with an air rate 1 liter / minute. The results showed the best molar ratio for the formation of mineral struvite is molar ratio of [Mg2+] : [NH4+] : [PO43– ] is 2,5:1:1 at pH 8. Struvite formed by 42% where there is still impurities like magnesium calcium phospate by 52%. Key words : waste; meneral; bulkhead reactor; struvite.
