Abstract
Ricket can be used as a fuel that can last for a long time. Kluwak shells can be used as the basic material for making briquettes because they contain hemicellulose, cellulose and lignin which are quite high. However, the weakness in making briquettes is in the initial ignition process. The purpose of this study was to find the concentration of the oxidizing agent and particle size to obtain the fastest heating value, moisture content, ash content and ignition time that met the briquette standards. The research methodology is the process of carbonizing the material and then grinding and filtering the material with various particle sizes, namely 20 mesh, 30 mesh, 40 mesh, 50 mesh and 60 mesh. Then the charcoal powder was mixed with KMnO4 oxidizer with variable concentrations of 20%, 30%, 40%, 50% and 60%. After that mixing with adhesive and printing briquettes. The test results show that the addition of an oxidizer affects the initial ignition speed of the briquettes. Briquettes with a particle size of 20 mesh and an oxidizing agent concentration of 20% had the best calorific value of 6908.27 cal/gr, with the lowest moisture content of 4.3551% and the lowest ash content of 2.2334%. Good results at the fastest ignition time on briquettes with a particle size of 20 mesh with an oxidizing agent concentration of 60%, namely 15 seconds.
