Abstract

Tofu waste is the residue of soybean processing that is wasted because it is not formed into tofu. Tofu waste contains many pollutants that can pollute rivers and cause health problems. The jartest method is a method of treating wastewater into clean water whose process includes the process of coagulation-flocculation and deposition. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of green clam shells as coagulants in the treatment of tofu industrial liquid waste. The green clam shells are dried and mashed into a 100 mesh powder. After that 1000 mL of liquid tofu pulp is put into a beaker glass for a fast stirring treatment of 150 rpm for 2 minutes, and slow stirring of 60 rpm for 15 minutes. Then the green clam shell powder that has been used as a coagulant is put into each glass beaker with the weight of the coagulant in grams including 0.5; 0,7; 0,9; 1,1; 1,3; and settling time in minutes 20, 30, 40, 50, 60. The yield of chitosan moisture content is 1.29% and the percentage of deacetylation is 65.04%. Preliminary analysis of tofu industrial liquid waste with coagulants obtained successive BOD, COD, TSS levels of 965.25mg/L; 435mg/L; 395mg/L; and pH 4. In the final analysis of tofu industrial liquid waste, changes in BOD, COD, TSS levels to 195.56mg/L were obtained; 299mg/L; 195.32 mg/L and pH 6.
