Abstract
Film is a form of communication media that contains a message to be conveyed to the audience. But the audience's acceptance of the message will certainly differ according to the background of each individual . This study aims to determine the meaning of the audience, namely millennials, about the existence of ageism in the film "Senior Year". As for this research, it uses a research method in the form of a reception analysis belonging to Stuart Hall which divides audience acceptance into three categories of positions, namely; dominant hegemonic code, negotiated code and opposittional code. The data collection technique used by the researcher was in the form of in-depth interviews with informants who had met the requirements needed in this study. By processing the data and analyzing the results of indepth interviews with informants about ageism in the film "Senior Year", using Stuart Hall's encoding-decoding theory with the four informants who had different references and experiences. So the results were obtained that the first and third informants were in the dominant hegemonic code position, the second informants were in the negotiated code position and the fourth informants were in the opposittional code position. Keywords : Reception Analysis; Ageism; Films; Senior Year.
