Abstract
Land use conversion is a consequence of the logistics of increasing population activity and population. Land use conversion is basically a common thing, if land conversion is carried out without paying attention to soil and air conservation, it will cause land degradation. The development of the population in Pujon District causes an increase in the need for land use change without regard to soil and air conservation rules so that land degradation occurs, this can be seen from the continued impact of land degradation, namely long droughts in the dry season, landslides and floods in the dry season. The rainy season in the Pujon area causes the access to the Malang - Kediri route to be cut off. This research was conducted with the ability of the land with the aim of suppressing the level of land degradation in the Pujon District. The results showed that there were three land capability classes, namely class III, IV, and VIII. The dominant limiting factor affecting land capability is the slope and soil permeability, there are land uses that are not in accordance with the ability class so that it is directed to Protected Forests.
