Abstract
The Sorbitol factory with a capacity of 40,000 tons/year will be established in Kendal Industrial Estate, Jl. Saptarengga No. 2 A, Tambak, Wonorejo, Kaliwungu District, Kendal Regency, Central Java 51371, Indonesia. The factory operates 24 hours a day and 330 days a year. This Sorbitol factory is made from glucose which is taken from PT. Sumber Manis Harapan Jaya. Sorbitol is a product that has many uses in various industrial sectors, in the pharmaceutical industry sorbitol is used as a surfactant, in the food industry it is used as a sweetener and mixture in food, and in the cosmetic industry it is used as a humectant and thickening agent in the manufacture of cosmetics. Sorbitol in this design is obtained through a catalytic hydrogenation reaction between glucose and hydrogen gas assisted by a Raney Nickel catalyst. Glucose is stored in the glucose storage warehouse (F-111) and transported to the hopper (F-113) using a bucket elevator (J-112), after which from the hopper it is then inserted into the dissolving tank (M-110) using a screw conveyor (J-114) and glucose is dissolved in water. The glucose solution is then pumped to the heater (E-212) to be heated and flowed to the catalytic hydrogenation reactor (R-210). Hydrogen gas from the hydrogen storage tank (F-213) is flowed to the expander (G-214) to reduce the pressure and then fed to the catalytic hydrogenation reactor (R-210). A solution of glucose and hydrogen gas reacts and is assisted by a Raney Nickel catalyst in a catalytic hydrogenation reactor to form sorbitol. The formed sorbitol is then pumped into cooler 1 (E-312) to be cooled and flowed to the carbonation tank (D-310) for the decolorization process. After that, the sorbitol solution was pumped into the evaporator (V-320) to concentrate the concentration up to 70%. The 70% sorbitol solution is then pumped to cooler 2 (E-332) to be cooled and flowed to the sorbitol storage tank (F-330). The details of the pre-planned Sorbitol factory based on the economic analysis are as follows: 1. Capacity: 40,000 tons/year 2. Company form : Limited Liability Company (PT) 3. Organizational system: Line and Staff 4. Number of employees: 154 people 5. Operating system: Continue 6. Operation time : 330 days per year; 24 hours every day 7. Fixed Capital Investment (FCI): Rp 244,833,922,346 8. Working Capital Investment (WCI) : IDR 146,593,920,249 9. Total Production Cost (TPC): IDR 635,900,904,897 10. Payback Period: 4 years 3 months 11. Interest on bank loans: 8% 12. Return on Investment (before tax) : 22.31% 13. Return on Investment (after tax) : 16.73% 14. Internal Rate of Return : 11% 15. Break Even Point : 30.0%
