Abstract
The purpose of this study is to know how the reception analysis of Surabaya peoples about the shift performance of singer dangdut in television media.. The object studied in this research is performance of dangdut singer who shifted from the era of Rhoma Irama to the era of Via Vallen in terms of appearance in the form of makeup, fashion, accessories and also in terms of style include wobble or dance,, rhythm and music lyric. This study uses theory of reception analysis that describes the acceptance and understanding of the audience will a media, this research use qualitative research method by conducting in-depth inerview with informants. The results showed that the Surabaya people knowed the existence major figure performance of dangdut shift through the television media, especially in the era Inul and Via. Television can provide and change the values that exist in society according to popular culture theory which explains that popular culture is a dynamic force that destroys old boundaries, traditions, tastes and describes all kind of differences. Where popular culture is made by the media and influences people’s lives. Keywords: Reception Analysis, Popular Culture, Dangdut, Performing Art
