Abstract
The current availability of resources is a crucial factor for biomass with high potential to penetrate the energy market. Globally, biomass fuels are becoming increasingly attractive as suitable alternatives to fossil fuels due to the growing demand for clean energy. The limited use of fossil fuels and their contribution to global climate change have prompted the need to explore more sustainable and environmentally friendly energy alternatives. Biobriquettes have emerged as a promising solution in this regard. The objective of this research is to analyze the influence of the addition of oxidizer (KMnO4), the composition of palm frond and bintaro fruit, as well as pyrolysis temperature conditions to obtain the highest-quality biobriquettes. The research involves pyrolyzing the materials, followed by screening up to 40 mesh. Subsequently, a mixture of palm frond charcoal and bintaro fruit charcoal is created. The addition of oxidizer (KMnO4) at 0% and 5% for each composition weight of palm frond (%) to bintaro fruit (%) is 0:100; 25:75; 50:50; 25:75; 100:0 in the study. Afterward, the mixture is combined with a binder for molding. The research results indicate that the oxidizer KMnO4 in biobriquettes leads to higher moisture and ash content. Consequently, the calorific value of biobriquettes decreases. However, the addition of oxidizer results in a shorter ignition time and flame duration, leading to an increase in the burning rate. The best biobriquette is obtained with a composition of 100% palm frond: 0% bintaro fruit without the addition of oxidizer and a pyrolysis temperature of 400°C. It has a moisture content and ash content of 2% and 7%, respectively, a burning time of 4007 seconds, a burning rate of 0.0013 g/second, and a calorific value according to the SNI standard of 5540.0650 cal/gram.
