Abstract
Resource utilization activities that occur in the upstream area will have an impact on the middle and downstream areas. Watershed management is needed in regulating the balance of the use of natural resources against the needs of the community in each part of the watershed. Watershed management efforts are needed to encourage environmental sustainability to be realized and create a balance of ecosystems. Assessment of environmental sustainability aspects of each part of the Welang watershed by assessing the carrying capacity of the watershed from 3 (three) indicators covering land conditions, water management conditions and regional spatial use. This study aims to determine the watershed management on the condition of the carrying capacity of the watershed seen from the aspect of environmental sustainability. The determination is made in accordance with the Regulation of the Minister of Forestry of the Republic of Indonesia Number: P.61/Menhut-II/2014 concerning Monitoring and Evaluation of Watershed Management. The value of the land condition parameter in the Upper Arjuno section occupies the highest weight with the worst value with parameters (PLK) classified as high class with a value of 36.5%, (PPV) belonging to poor class with a value of 66.9%, and the erosion index parameter with a value of 17.4 classified as very bad. The best value of the carrying capacity of the Welang watershed is shown by the Central part of the Welang watershed of 57 in good condition, the Lower part of the Welang watershed of 63 which is classified as good and for the Upper Bromo Welang watershed of 67.5 in moderate condition, the Upper Arjuno of the Welang watershed of 76.5 in moderate condition.
