Abstract

The problem of waste, especially organic waste that has not been processed properly, is certainly a big problem. This is because the waste management system or handling is not well organized. One solution in handling household waste (organic) can be done by composting. By utilizing some simple composting technologies such as; composting with Black Soldier Fly (BSF) larvae, composting with biopore infiltration holes and composter drums. This study aims to determine the percentage of waste reduction by applying several composting technologies, in addition to comparing the results of the quality of the compost produced from the three composting technologies, and also to find out how long it takes for the composting process. This research uses different initial weight variations of the three composting technologies. The results of the highest percentage of waste reduction were in composting with Black Soldier Fly (BSF) larvae of 60.25%, while composting with biopore holes was 50% and composting with drum composters was 60%. In the final result, the compost which has the closest quality to the quality standard of SNI 19-7030-2004 is composting using Black Soldier Fly (BSF) larvae. The compost quality parameters tested included pH, moisture content, C-organic, N-total, C/N ratio. Composting technology with Black Soldier Fly (BSF) larvae is able to reduce organic waste for about 28 days, while composting biopore infiltration holes can reduce waste for about 14 days, and composting drum composters can reduce waste for about 21 days.
