Abstract

One of the cucumber varieties in Indonesia is local Madura which has a crunchy taste, contains a lot of water but has low productivity. Genetic improvement in local Madura cucumber plants was carried out through plant breeding with 60Co gamma ray induction. The purpose of this study was to determine the plant performance and genetic diversity of the local Madura cucumber plant. The research was conducted in January 2022-March 2022 in the production area of the Singosari Rice and Palawija Seed Development Unit, Malang Regency, East Java. This study used one treatment factor from the first generation mutant seed (M1) of Madura local variety cucumber plant as a result of 60Co gamma irradiation with doses of 0 Gy, 100 Gy, 200 Gy, 300 Gy, 400 Gy, 500 Gy and 600 Gy. Data analysis used t test by comparing each irradiation dose treatment with control and data analysis using genetic variance estimation. The results showed that there were differences in the performance of quantitative characters in the 100 Gy, 200 Gy, 300 Gy and 600 Gy mutants, and there were differences in the qualitative character performances in the 100 Gy-600 Gy mutants. The level of genetic diversity and heritability in the M1 population resulting from each mutation dose was in the low to high (diverse) category. The highest genetic diversity contained doses of 200 Gy, 300 Gy, and 600 Gy on the diameter character of the fruit.
