Abstract

The rise of cases of alcohol abuse which is mixed into liquor among teenagers is now increasingly worrying, causing a high rate of crime at a young age. So that this does not happen, communication between parents and their teenagers should be emphasized, especially on how parents provide education and understanding to children about the dangers of consuming alcoholic beverages. This study uses a descriptive qualitative approach with analysis of Communication Patterns according to Diana Baumrind, which categorizes them into four types of Communication Patterns for Parents and Adolescents. The source of data in this study was obtained through in-depth interviews conducted by researches with four pairs of parents and children. The results of this study can be concluded that, supervision and education from parents to children regarding alcoholic beverages is still very minimal even though in reality all parents will be angry and disappointed if they find their children consuming alcoholic beverages. Children are afraid to open up to their parents and don’t communicate much because they are afraid of the emotional response of their parents so they prefer to be closed in their daily interactions. Keywords: Communication Pattern, Parents, Adolescents, Alcoholic Beverages.
