Abstract

Struvite, also known as magnesium ammonium phosphorus hexahydrate, is a white crystal with a chemical formula of magnesium ammonium phosphorus hexahydrate (MgNH4PO4.6H2O). The economic benefit of struvite fertilizer from urine waste is that it is cheaper and easier to produce than other fertilizers; nevertheless, the growth, biomass, and chloride content of plants are somewhat greater when using urine fertilizer. The purpose of this study was to analyze the influence of temperature and molar ratio on the creation of struvite, as well as the effect of calcium ion addition on the development of struvite crystals that can be used as fertilizer. This struvite production employs a magnetic stirrer with Mg:PO4:Ca concentrations of 1:1:0, 1:1:1, and 3:1:1 with temperatures of 30°C, 35°C, and 40°C. This study produced the best result of 46.2% P2O5 on struvite with a concentration of Mg:PO4:Ca 1:1:0 at a temperature of 40°C. Keywords: Struvite, Urine, P2O5
