Abstract

Cayenne Pepper Prentul Kediri is one of the local varieties that has the potential to be developed into a new high-yielding variety through mutation breeding. Mutation breeding was carried out using the 60Co gamma-ray irradiation method. The research was conducted from August 2021 to February 2022 in the research field, Ketindan Village, Malang Regency. The experiment used a randomized design of a group with three repeats. The treatment consisted of gamma-ray irradiation doses of 0 Gy (control), 100 Gy, 200 Gy, and 300 Gy. The results showed that the gap in each individual M1 had undergone a change in character appearance as evidenced by the results of dendograms of varying degrees of similarity between individuals. Most of the phenotypes shown in M1 are experiencing an increase in the total fruit weight and total number of fruits per plant, a slowdown in flowering age and harvest age, as well as changes in the qualitative appearance of habitus, leaf shape, fruit shape, and fruit tip. The level of genetic diversity in each character revolves around the low-high. High genetic diversity is found only in the character of the total number of fruits per plant in MP1 and MP3 populations. Mutant strains that can be used as a consideration for selection materials in later generations are MP3-2(3) and MP1-15(3) individuals with a higher flowering age and harvest age character, and high average production of the total number of fruits per plant and total fruit weight per plant.
