Abstract

The Covid-19 phenomenon has shocked the whole world and changed people's lives since the end of 2019. The high number of cases in every country in 2020-2021 made the government issue various policies to reduce the positive number of Covid-19, including in the education sector. Changes in teaching and learning activities using the online system are one way to suppress Covid-19 cases. The limitations of the online learning process have a significant impact on the current condition of the young generation. This issue became one of the concerns and discussions at the 76th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) 2021, which was attended by state and government leaders and diplomatic invitations from all over the world. BTS, who was present and delivered his speech at The Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) Moment at UNGA 2021, talked about the issue of lost generation during the Covid-19 pandemic. This research is a descriptive qualitative method. The study used the semiotic Roland Barthes approach of denotation, connotation, and myth. This research wants to discover the meaning of the Lost Generation in the BTS United Nations 2021 speech. This study explains the phenomenon of lost learning during the pandemic faced by many young people in the world. Researchers also found that BTS conveyed optimism through a new term, namely welcome generation, which would describe the current young generation as ready to welcome new challenges and rise from the Covid-19 pandemic.
